Did you know that Systema and Classic Army have produced Version 1 (FA-MAS) gearboxes? No, me neither...

Spleen have, well, 'spleen'... shouting 'ferret hound' doesn't have the same ring to it...

Hello there guys,
Apologies for not being a 47 Commando and posting in your forums, but with no general Brit infantry forum I though this would be the best place.
I'm coming along to this weekends operations event, and wondered about any useful tips with regards to webbing use/packing and general kit up keep. I've done a bit of airsoft in the past, along with Vietnam era stuff but the kit for WW2 seems to need a bit more thought and TLC.
I have:
'37 Pattern BDUs with RWF ribbons
'37 Pattern Webbing (2x Ammo Pouch, Yolk, Belt, 1 x MTP, Haversack style Gas Mask Bag, Belt Mounted Green Gas Mask Bag, Small Pack, Waterbottle)
Gaiters
CABs
Scrim Scarf
Black Beret with RWF badge
Cyma Thompson
'58 Pattern Pistol Holster
TM 1911
'58 Pattern Olive Drab Poncho
Was planning on using the haversack gasmask bag as a dump pouch and snack storage, the MTP for loose ammo, speed loader and spare batteries, belt mounted gas mask bag for my '58 poncho, 1 x ammo pouch for pyro, snuff and pipe, 1 x ammo pouch for mags.
Could I use silicon spray to waterproof my BDUs or at least make them a little less like a woollen sponge? Has anyone else done this? My BDUs are repro but seem quite good quality if slightly greener than some of my mates who have also begun collecting kit for WW2 and would liek to make them as survivable as possible.
Any advice gratefully recieved,
Wellspoken

We are now up against live, hostile targets. So, if Little Red Riding Hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch.

hey there matey, glad to see another brit joining the ranks
In all honesty, your kit sounds ace, and i wouldnt worry too much about waterproofing - it actually takes quite a soaking to get right through the serge, and ive worn my BDs in all weathers. I wouldn't bother using any kind of fabseal or spray on them.....at first i felt similarly about my blancoed webbing so tried fabsealing the pouches - i neednt have bothered as theyre pretty water resistant too
One thing i would suggest is re-inforce the stitching in the groin and on the buttons - theyre always the first things to go on repro uniforms

I concur with Lefty's comments about waterproofing, having said that my smoke bombs were in a sorry state after the first morning's soaking at Carentan, so a little help for any pouches you are carrying water-damagables (ie pyro, period booklets, paper money etc) mightn't be a bad idea. I agree there's no need to waterproof all of you, hopefully your skin doesn't leak.
If you're paranoid about damp induced hypothermia (or a hernia from carrying all that extra water in your woollens), it might be worth investing in a repro groundsheet/rain cape thingy. They're ace. And you can sit on 'em.
Other than that, yours sounds a fun loadout, welcome to the gang. We'll tell you when the kettle is boiling....
